Why are certifications important?<\/strong><\/h2>

Consumers are becoming increasingly conscious and demand transparency about where products come from and how they are produced. As a result, retailers and supermarkets increasingly prefer suppliers who can prove that their products are sustainably and ethically grown. Certifications make this visible and help to optimise supply chain processes and reduce risks.<\/p>

Overview of key certifications<\/strong><\/h2>

\u2705 MPS-ABC<\/strong><\/h3>

One of the most widely used environmental certificates in ornamental horticulture. Growers are assessed based on their use of crop protection products, energy, fertilisers and water. Based on a points system, they are awarded a score: A+, A, B or C. The higher the score, the more environmentally friendly the cultivation.<\/p>

Did you know? MPS-ABC often serves as the foundation for other certifications. It\u2019s a solid first step for growers aiming to become more sustainable.<\/p><\/blockquote>

\u2705 MPS-GAP<\/strong><\/h3>

Similar to GlobalG.A.P., but specifically tailored to the ornamental sector. This certification ensures that cultivation follows good agricultural practices (GAP), including hygiene, traceability, safe working conditions and responsible resource use. A key label for the retail sector.<\/p>

\u2705 MPS-SQ (socially qualified)<\/strong><\/h3>

This certification focuses on the social aspects of business operations. Are working conditions safe? Are workers\u2019 rights respected? Are there grievance procedures in place? MPS-SQ aligns with international standards such as SA8000 and the ILO conventions.<\/p>

\u2705 GlobalG.A.P.<\/strong><\/h3>

A globally recognised standard that originated in the food industry but is now also widely applied in the flower and plant trade. Retailers in countries like Germany and the UK regularly request this certification. It covers food safety, sustainability, traceability and risk management.<\/p>

\u2705 On the way to PlanetProof<\/strong><\/h3>

This Dutch ecolabel applies to products grown with minimal environmental impact. It sets strict requirements for pesticide use, energy, water, fertilisers and waste management. It is increasingly requested by major supermarket chains.<\/p>

\u2705 Fairtrade \/ Max Havelaar<\/strong><\/h3>

These labels guarantee fair trade conditions for producers in developing countries. They focus on living wages, safe working environments, no child labour and support for local communities. Especially relevant for flowers sourced from Africa and Latin America.<\/p>

\u2705 EU organic label<\/strong><\/h3>

Certified organic flowers and plants are grown without synthetic fertilisers or pesticides. While still a niche market, this label is gaining popularity\u2014particularly among environmentally conscious consumers.<\/p>
